Now if out of joy in beauty
[fire, or the wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the stars,
or the great water, or the sun and moon] they thought them gods,
let them know how far more excellent is the Lord than these;
for the original source of beauty fashioned them…
For they search busily among his works,
but are distracted by what they see,
because the things seen are fair.
But again, not even these are pardonable.
For if they so far succeeded in knowledge
that they could speculate about the world,
how did they not more quickly find its Lord?
(Wisdom 13:1-9)
AT the beginning of the recent Amazon Synod in Rome, a ceremony took place in the Vatican Gardens that stunned many in the Catholic world. Since I’ve already covered this topic in more detail here, I’ll give a brief summary including a few more important facts.
A ceremonial blanket was placed on the ground and various Amazonian artifacts, statues of pregnant naked women, food and other objects were laid upon it. After Pope Francis arrived and took his seat, a mixed group that included indigenous, a friar, and other organizers processed into the garden. Catholic World Report described what followed:
Participants sang and held hands while dancing in a circle around the images, in a dance resembling the “pago a la tierra,” a traditional offering to Mother Earth common among indigenous peoples in some parts of South America. —The Catholic World Report, October 4th, 2019
Then, the group knelt down and bowed prostrate to the ground toward the center of the circle. Later on, bowls of dirt (likely from the Amazon) were poured onto the grass. Again, an indigenous woman raised her arms in the air and bowed prostrate to the ground, this time to the pile of earth.
(You can watch the video of the event here.)
A controversy erupted, particularly over the identity of the female statues in the circle that appeared as the center of attention. While one woman is later overheard in the video saying that the statue is “Our Lady of the Amazon,” three Vatican spokesmen were quick to dismiss that notion.
[It] represented life, fertility, mother earth. —Dr. Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communications, vaticannews.va
Pope Francis himself later referred to the statues as “pachamama.”
That the Pope, Vatican officials, and REPAM organisers have all identified the statues as depictions of the “Mother Earth” or “Pachamama” is, in our opinion, strong legitimating grounds for this identification. —Dom Cornelius, Abbey de Sainte-Cyran, “The Pachamama Primer“, October 27th, 2019
WHO IS PACHAMAMA?
Pachamama is another word for “Mother Earth” or more accurately “Cosmic Mother” (pacha meaning universe, world, time and space, and mama meaning mom). As noted in Part II, Mother Earth is making a comeback, including in feminist circles where she has become “an alternative to God the Father, whose image is seen to be linked to a patriarchal conception of male domination of women.”[1]Jesus Christ, The Bearer of the Water of Life, n. 2.3.4.2 The country of Bolivia, which features the Amazon basin, is deeply immersed in such pagan rituals to Pachamama (see here and here).
Pachamama is the Supreme Goddess honoured by the indigenous people of the Andes including Peru, Argentina and Bolivia… She is in fact the Goddess of all that exists for all time, eternal. —Lila, orderwhitemoon.org
The “pago a la tierra,” which appeared to take place in the Vatican Garden, is the traditional ritual of Pachamama meaning “Payment to the Earth.” It is recommended to be done in a garden or out in nature; a “ceremonial blanket” is used; and participants form what in “ancient and contemporary Nature wisdom traditions” is called a “sacred circle,” “magic circle” or “medicine wheel” to make their offering. [2]circlesanctuary.org The idea, reports National Geographic, is that:
Pachamama, or Mother Earth… is appeased through ceremonial payments… These types of offerings—for good health and safety—are classified as white magic. —National Geographic, February 26th, 2018
But is that what these Catholics were doing at the tree-planting ceremony in the Vatican Garden? A statement from the leader of the ritual said:
To plant is to have hope. It is believing in a growing and fruitful life to satisfy the hunger of Mother Earth’s creation. This brings us to our origin by reconnecting divine energy and teaching us the way back to the Creator Father. The Synod is to plant this tree, water and cultivate, so that the Amazonian peoples are heard and respected in their customs and traditions experiencing the mystery of the divinity present in the Amazonian ground. —Statement by Ednamar de Oliveira Viana, October 4th, 2019
Far from alleviating concerns many have of what took place on Vatican grounds in front of an international audience (leading four exorcists to urge a day of reparation), her comments only furthered what some South American bishops claimed was plainly syncretism: the fusion of different religious beliefs or symbols without proper inculturation—in this case, a blend of pagan, Christian, and New Age concepts.
…the reason for the criticism is precisely because of the primitive nature and pagan appearance of the ceremony and the absence of openly Catholic symbols, gestures and prayers during the various gestures, dances and prostrations of that surprising ritual. —Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, archbishop emeritus of Caracas, Venezuela; October 21, 2019; Catholic News Agency
Pope Francis stated that there was no “idolatrous intention” regarding the presence of the “pachamamas” on display in the Church of Santa Maria del Traspontina.[3]cf. National Catholic Reporter But Catholics have been left to speculate regarding the acts of prostration in the Vatican Gardens toward what Rome Reports called “replicas of the Mother Earth of the Amazon.” In fact, as I was writing this paragraph, my fifteen-year-old son walked into my office, looked at the photos and simply asked, “Dad, is she worshipping that pile of dirt?”
Perhaps the BBC already had the answer twelve years ago:
Indigenous and Christian beliefs have fused together here. God is worshipped but, just as important, is Pachamama or Mother Earth. —documentary on the Amazon, October 28, 2007; news.bbc.co.uk
NOT A COINCIDENCE?
Until this incident in the Vatican Gardens, most Catholics in the West had never even heard the word Pachamama. That is not the case with the United Nations.
On his blog, veteran Vatican journalist Edward Pentin posted a children’s textbook published by the United Nations Environment Programme from 2002 titled Pachamama. It’s stated purpose is to share “why the world’s environment is being degraded and how our Mother Earth is doing today.”[4]cf. un.org That seems fairly benign—until it reaches the part about “population growth,” teaching children that populations grow “more slowly” if each set of parents “only has one child.” Yes, just ask China. Pentin continues:
…the connection with the “Pachamama” and the UNEP shows that its appearance at the synod did not happen by chance, and is, in its own way, another indication of the ever-increasing “inculturation” of the UN and the global environmental movement into the very marrow of the Vatican. —edwardpentin.co.uk, November 8th, 2019
More on that in a moment.
As discussed in Part II, the synthesis of ecology, Mother Earth, New Age practices and a global political movement is not a random coalition.
New Age shares with a number of internationally influential groups, the goal of superseding or transcending particular religions in order to create space for a universal religion which could unite humanity. Closely related to this is a very concerted effort on the part of many institutions to invent a Global Ethic. —Jesus Christ, The Bearer of the Water of Life, n. 2.5, Pontifical Councils for Culture and Inter-religious Dialogue, 2003
Ultimately, it is the United Nations and her sister organizations that are at the forefront of an agenda using Mother Earth and the environment as a catalyst toward global governance, hand in hand with influential globalists and international bankers.
THE NEW RELIGION: ENVIRONMENTALISM
Their “Global Ethic” has become the Earth Charter, adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was first proposed to the UN in 1991 by Catholic dissident Hans Küng and later formulated by former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and Canadian-born UN environmentalist guru Maurice Strong. While the Charter reads as a kind of “bill of rights” or creed for environmentalism, its founders clearly assigned a religious dimension to it. Both Strong and Gorbachev were on record stating that they hoped it would serve as a kind of “Ten Commandments” to guide human behaviour. Ironically, the Earth Charter has travelled throughout the world in an “Ark of Hope” — similar to the Ark of the Covenant which safeguarded the stone tablets that Moses inscribed with the original Ten Commandments. The artistic panels on the sides of the Ark of Hope represent Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Spirit (ah, see the Scripture at the top of this writing!).
Strong, known as the “St. Paul” of the environmental movement, owned a ranch in Canada called the New Age Manitou Centre with a “focus on the human spirit, consciousness and sustainability.” Jacqueline Kasun points out in The War Against Population that Strong’s agenda “included abortion, openness to the occult, and pagan nature worship.”[5]lifesitenews.com
As for Gorbachev, he founded Green Cross International to promote the UN’s initiatives and remains an avowed atheist—well, as pertains to Christianity. On the PBS Charlie Rose Show, Gorbachev stated:
We are part of the Cosmos… Cosmos is my God. Nature is my God… l believe that the 21st century will be the century of the environment, the century when all of us will have to find an answer to how to harmonize relations between man and the rest of Nature… We are part of Nature… —October 23, 1996, Canada Free Press
The “answer” is the United Nations “Agenda 2030.”
WORDS ARE ONE THING…
Agenda 2030 is 17 “sustainable development” goals that the United Nations devised and is endorsed by member nations. While on the surface the goals read as aims few would object to, their underlying intent is obfuscated. This becomes apparent when the curtain is drawn back and the agenda of the globalists, international bankers, and philanthropists who are authoring, funding and promoting these goals is observed. Thousands of articles have been written warning people about what the words “sustainable development” mean according to the elites who toss this phrase around. So for our purposes, I will simply summarize what can be easily verified through numerous credible sources.
The UN’s goals for “sustainable development” involve curbing population growth and reducing mankind to a “sustainable” population. They include promoting “gender equality” and “inclusion” (ie. feminism and gender ideology), “universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights” (which is UN-speak for the right to abortion and contraception), and “education” in the area of “sexual and reproductive health” (the UN’s World Health Organisation has published “Standards for Sexuality Education in Europe” which provides a typical example of their aims, such as educating children as young as four on the “enjoyment and pleasure when touching one’s own body, early childhood masturbation, and the right to explore gender identities.”)[6]cf. WHO Regional Office for Europe and BZgA, Standards for Sexuality Education in Europe: A framework for policy-makers, educational and health authorities and specialists, [Cologne, 2010].
Back to Pentin’s assertion that the UN and the global environmental movement have penetrated “into the very marrow of the Vatican.” That may sound like hyperbole. However, while the Amazon Synod was taking place, the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences was sponsoring a symposium for the youth arm of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It’s run by globalist and pro-abortionist Jeffrey Sachs and funded by “pro-abortion, pro-gender theory Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. One of Sachs’s biggest supporters over the years has also been far-left financier George Soros.”[7]cf. lifesitenews.com
The conference, which has taken place in the Vatican for the fourth consecutive year, was designed to discuss the promoting of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), numbers 3.7 and 5.6 of which include “sexual and reproductive health services,” which is a euphemism used in the United Nations to refer to abortion and contraception. —lifesitenews.com, November 8th, 2019
ECOLOGY AND A NEW WORLD ORDER
But the UN’s goals don’t end there. Agenda 2030 absorbs the objectives set by its predecessor Agenda 21 (referring to the 21st century), which was aggressively pushed by Maurice Strong at the UN’s Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992 (Strong became assistant to the UN Secretary-General afterward).[8]cf. wikipedia.com Again, some have tried to dismiss the concerns over Agenda 21 as conspiracy theory. The problem with that assertion is that the brazen statements of globalists who back “sustainable development” goals are anything but theory. Among the radical tenets insinuated in the fine details of Agenda 21, pushed by Strong and signed onto by 178 member nations, are the abolition of “national sovereignty” and the dissolution of property rights.
Agenda 21: “Land… cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice; if unchecked, it may become a major obstacle in the planning and implementation of development schemes.” —”Alabama Bans U.N. Agenda 21 Sovereignty Surrender”, June 7th, 2012; investors.com
Strong also insisted that “current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle-class … involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and ‘convenience’ foods, ownership of motor vehicles, numerous electrical appliances, home and workplace air-conditioning … expensive suburban housing … are not sustainable.”[9]green-agenda.com/agenda21 ; cf. newamerican.com What property one can develop, how or if it is farmed, what energy can be extracted, or what houses we can build, are all in the crosshairs of global governance under the pretext of “sustainable agriculture” and “sustainable cities.”[10]Goals 2 and 11 of Agenda 2030 As the Global Biodiversity Assessment prepared by the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) stated:
…the root causes of the loss of biodiversity are embedded in the way societies use resources. This world view is characteristic of large scale societies, heavily dependent on resources brought from considerable distances. It is a world view that is characterized by the denial of sacred attributes in nature, a characteristic that became firmly established about 2000 years ago with the Judeo-Christian-Islamic religious traditions. —p. 863, green-agenda.com/agenda21
The solution, then?
Christianity has to be eliminated and give way to a global religion and a new world order. —Jesus Christ, The Bearer of the Water of Life, n. 4, Pontifical Councils for Culture and Inter-religious Dialogue
THE CATALYST
Don’t get me wrong. Many of the goals of the UN are noble and, on the surface, most agreeable. I’ll talk about that in a future part and why the Church is dialoguing with the UN. But the purpose here is to inform the reader how there is an ungodly plan that has been in the works for centuries to overthrow the present order of things—to foment a Global Revolution. But how can a revolution on such a massive scale take place? Like revolutions always do: by creating a real or perceived crisis—this time planetary—and then indoctrinating the youth.
We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order. —David Rockefeller, a prominent member of secret societies including the Illuminati, the Skull and Bones, and The Bilderberg Group; speaking at the UN, Sept. 14, 1994
The “crisis” being used to advance Agenda 2030 and the dissolution of the present order is “climate change” or “global warming.” However, the climate has been changing since the dawn of creation and, in fact, the earth has been warmer in the past than it is now.[11]“If we go down to the last 4000 to 3500 years in the Bronze Age period, it was three degrees warmer than today on the northern hemisphere at least… we had a new peak in high temperature in 2002 after a solar activity maximum, now the temperature is going down again. So we are heading into a cooling period.” —Dr. Fred Goldberg, April 22nd, 2010; en.people.cn I address the historical roots of “global warming” here and the controversial science here and here.
At the end of the day, the actual threat, not so subtly implied, is man himself (and hence, the “dire urgency” to reduce the population of the earth). Again, this is the narrative set by those who have authored the “sustainable development” agenda, including Strong, who was also a member of the Club of Rome, a globalist think tank:
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then, is humanity itself. —Alexander King & Bertrand Schneider. The First Global Revolution, p. 75, 1993
Strong must have been some kind of prophet because scientists are now insisting that the population of the world must be reduced because of “global warming”—even though many countries, including the United States, are at a fertility rate below replacement levels. This, while other scientists warn that “eating meat” is dooming the planet. It’s all suddenly an “emergency.” In 1996, Mikhail Gorbachev stated:
The threat of environmental crisis will be the international disaster key to unlock the New World Order. —Forbes, February 5th, 2013
SO, IT’S NOT REALLY ABOUT THE CLIMATE
Remarkably, top officials running the United Nations climate programs have admitted that “global warming” is not really about the environment but a tool to completely restructure the world economy. Former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christine Figueres, admitted:
This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years—since the industrial revolution. —November 30th, 2015; unric.org
Ottmar Edenhofer, a member of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated:
…one has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth… — dailysignal.com, November 19th, 2011
In other words, it is the prevailing economic model that they claim is the root of injustice and exploitation of the planet. Perhaps it was summed up best by former Canadian Minister of the Environment, Christine Stewart:
No matter if the science of global warming is all phony… climate change [provides] the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world. —quoted by Terence Corcoran, “Global Warming: The Real Agenda,” Financial Post, December 26th, 1998; from the Calgary Herald, December, 14, 1998
Again, the issue here isn’t whether or not there is corruption in the current economic model (and there is), but what the globalists intend to replace it with under the guise of love for “Mother Earth.” Now we’re getting to the nub of what is meant by “Green politics”: a restructuring of the economy, or more accurately, the destruction of the Western-based economic system so as to be replaced by a socialist-capitalist-Marxist system. Exaggeration?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is running for the U.S. Democratic ticket as an openly “socialist” candidate, as is her rival, Bernie Sanders. Like the UN, she has cloaked her agenda beneath ubiquitous environmental terms like “Green.” Her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, said earlier this year in a meeting with Sam Ricketts, climate director for Washington Gov. Jay Inslee:
The interesting thing about the Green New Deal, is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all. Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.
To which Rickett’s replied:
I think it’s… dual. It is both rising to the challenge that is existential around climate and it is building an economy that contains more prosperity. More sustainability in that prosperity — and more broadly shared prosperity, equitability and justice throughout. —July 10th, 2019, washingtonpost.com (my emphasis)
That is the identical language used by the United Nations as well as former USSR President, Mikhail Gorbachev. In his book Perestroika: New Thinking for Our Country and the World, he stated:
Socialism… has all the conditions for solving nationality problems on the basis of equality and cooperation… It’s my conviction that the human race has entered a stage where we are all dependent on each other. No other country or nation should be regarded in total separation from another, let alone pitted against another. That’s what our communist vocabulary calls internationalism and it means promoting universal human values. —Perestroika: New Thinking for Our Country and the World, 1988, p. 119, 187-188 (emphasis mine)
Three years later on December 31st, 1991, after a sequence of tumultuous events including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union dissolved. Cheers could be heard throughout the Western World proclaiming that Communism was dead. But they were wrong. It was a planned demolition.
Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about Glasnost and Perestroika and democracy in the coming years. They are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal changes in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep. —Mikhail Gorbachev, speech to the Soviet Politburo, 1987; from Agenda: the Grinding Down of America, documentary by Idaho Legislator Curtis Bowers; www.vimeo.com
Indeed, Gorbachev, and his comrades throughout the globe had simply turned to a new vehicle for their vision of global Communism, the United Nations and capitalism.
Pope Pius XI further emphasized the fundamental opposition
between Communism and Christianity,
and made it clear that no Catholic could subscribe even to moderate Socialism.
The reason is that Socialism is founded on a doctrine of human society
which is bounded by time and takes no account
of any objective other than that of material well-being.
—POPE JOHN XXIII, (1958-1963), Encyclical Mater et Magistra, May 15, 1961, n. 34
