…behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat… (Luke 22:31)
EVERYWHERE I go, I see it; I am reading it in your letters; and I am living it in my own experiences: there is a spirit of division afoot in the world that is driving families and relationships apart like never before. On the national scale, the gulf between the so-called “left” and “right” has widened, and the animosities between them have a reached a hostile, nearly revolutionary pitch. Whether it is seemingly impassable differences between family members, or ideological divides growing within nations, something has shifted in the spiritual realm as if a great sifting is occurring. Servant of God Bishop Fulton Sheen seemed to think so, already, last century:
The world is rapidly being divided into two camps, the comradeship of anti-Christ and the brotherhood of Christ. The lines between these two are being drawn. How long the battle will be we know not; whether swords will have to be unsheathed we know not; whether blood will have to be shed we know not; whether it will be an armed conflict we know not. But in a conflict between truth and darkness, truth cannot lose. —Bishop Fulton John Sheen, D.D. (1895-1979); source unknown (possibly “The Catholic Hour”)
UNRESTRAINED DIVISION
I believe this sifting is related to a “word” I received many years ago when I was traveling through the mountains of British Columbia. Out of the blue, I suddenly heard in my heart the words:
I have lifted the restrainer.
I felt something in my spirit that is hard to explain. It was as if a shock-wave traversed the earth—as if something in the spiritual realm had been released.
A Canadian bishop asked me to write about that experience, which you can read here: Removing the Restrainer. The “restrainer” is related to 2 Thessalonians 2, the only place in the Bible where that word is used. It speaks of God removing a “restrainer” that holds back lawlessness, which is is the quintessential spirit of antichrist.
He shall speak against the Most High and wear down the holy ones of the Most High, intending to change the feast days and the law. (Daniel 7:25)
The Lord will permit a “strong delusion” that acts as a sieve to separate the wheat from the chaff before the “day of the Lord,” (which is not a 24 hour day, but a period of peace and justice before the end of the world. See The Great Context).
Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie, that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned. (2 Thess 2:11-12)
When one takes all things into consideration—the teachings of the Early Church Fathers, the popes of the last century, and Our Lady’s messages to the world through various apparitions and seers[1]cf. Is Jesus Really Coming?—it would seem that we are living in the vigil hours before “midnight” of the Day of the Lord, a period of great spiritual darkness in which everything will seem upside down. Indeed, today that which is wrong is now right, and that which is right is now considered “intolerant”. And hence, people are being forced to choose sides.
THE SIEVES
What Pope Francis, Donald Trump, Marine Le Pen, and other populist leaders are becoming, ultimately, are instruments of sifting. The weeds are being separated from the wheat, the sheep from the goats.
Let [the weeds and the wheat] grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.” (Matt 13:30)
The world at the approach of a new millennium, for which the whole Church is preparing, is like a field ready for the harvest. —ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II, World Youth Day, homily, August 15th, 1993
Jesus explained that this parable referred to the “end of the age”, not necessarily the very end of the world. He explains:
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear. (Matt 13:41-43)
This is our great hope and our invocation, ‘Your Kingdom come!’ — a Kingdom of peace, justice and serenity, which will re-establish the original harmony of creation. —ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II, General Audience, November 6th, 2002, Zenit
The Apostle John also speaks of a Great Sifting at the end of this age, which ushers in, again, not the end of the world, but a period of peace. [2]see Rev 19:11-20:6 and 14:14-20; cf. The Great Deliverance and The Last Judgments
…the Spirit of Pentecost will flood the earth with his power… People will believe and will create a new world… The face of the earth will be renewed because something like this has not happened since the Word became flesh. —Jesus to Elizabeth Kindelmann, The Flame of Love, p. 61
Yes, a miracle was promised at Fatima, the greatest miracle in the history of the world, second only to the Resurrection. And that miracle will be an era of peace which has never really been granted before to the world. —Cardinal Mario Luigi Ciappi, papal theologian for Pius XII, John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, and John Paul II, October 9th, 1994; Family Catechism, (Sept. 9th, 1993); page 35
THE GREAT PURIFICATION
Setting aside all other questions concerning Pope Francis and the ambiguity at times surrounding his papacy, we can say with certainty that this pontificate is bringing to light those cardinals, bishops, priests, and laity who have an agenda that is not in line with the Gospel. Indeed, a progressive element within the Church has been emboldened and is beginning to propose “pastoral” practices and changes that are contrary to Sacred Tradition.[3]cf. The Anti-Mercy But this pontificate is also revealing those who, in the name of orthodoxy, are obstructions to the Gospel through clericalism, rigidity and suppression of the laity. Indeed, I have experienced this myself where it is not the progressive, but more “conservative” bishops at times, who oppose authentic movements of the Holy Spirit.[4]cf. The Five Corrections
Yes, everything is slowly but surely coming to light. I don’t know if this is what Pope Francis intended, but I believe it’s precisely what Jesus Christ intends.
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. (Luke 12:51-53)
Consider again what Our Lord and Our Lady are allegedly saying through chosen souls, in these, our times. Again, I present the following to the spiritually mature who are capable of discerning prophecy with the Church—not those who despise it: “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good” (1 Thess 5:19-21).
This will be the greatest purification since the beginning of creation… My child, this period of purification has begun. You are witnessing the separation of family and friends and you will seem confused, but keep your focus on the kingdom and I promise My faithful will be rewarded… My people, when you see the rise in earthquakes and storms you must begin to realize that this is your time of preparation. Do not fear when these events begin to take place for this is the beginning of My purification. You will see much division between family and friends for this division is the struggle between heaven and hell…. You have nothing to fear if you are truly living the Commandments and picking up your cross and following Me. —various passages of Jesus speaking to American seer, Jennifer, over the past decade; wordsfromjesus.com
Dearly beloved children, the world needs prayer, each one of you is called to prayer. Little children, what must happen will be momentous, the earth will still tremble, tremble greatly. Many of my children will turn away from the faith and many others will deny the true magisterium of the Church, believing that they can do without God. Many false prophets will break up and scatter God’s flock. Little children, do not go looking for extraordinary things, the most extraordinary thing par excellence is my son Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, do not look for him down the wrong paths. —Our Lady of Zaro, Italy, April 26th, 2017
Dear children, I am your Sorrowful Mother and I suffer for what comes to you. You are heading towards a future of great spiritual battles. The True Church of My Jesus will face a great battle against the giant of false doctrines. You that are of the Lord, defend Him. —Message of Our Lady Queen of Peace to Pedro Regis, May 6, 2017
You are heading for a future of great spiritual battles. The war between the True and the False church will be painful… This is the time of the Great Spiritual Battle and you cannot run away. My Jesus needs you. Those who give their lives in defense of the truth will receive a great reward from the Lord… After all the pain, a New Time of Peace will come for men and women of faith. —Message of Our Lady Queen of Peace to Pedro Regis Planaltina, April 22nd; 25th, 2017
THE GREAT HARVEST COMES
And so it comes, the “great purification” of the Church and the world, the “great harvest” at the end of the age. Whether it takes years or decades, we do not know. What is certain is that this present darkness will give way to a new dawn; this division to a new unity; and this culture of death to a true culture of life. It will be…
A new age in which love is not greedy or self-seeking, but pure, faithful and genuinely free, open to others, respectful of their dignity, seeking their good, radiating joy and beauty. A new age in which hope liberates us from the shallowness, apathy, and self-absorption which deaden our souls and poison our relationships. Dear young friends, the Lord is asking you to be prophets of this new age… —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Homily, World Youth Day, Sydney, Australia, July 20th, 2008
Indeed…
…when the trial of this sifting is past, a great power will flow from a more spiritualized and simplified Church. Men in a totally planned world will find themselves unspeakably lonely… [the Church] will enjoy a fresh blossoming and be seen as man’s home, where he will find life and hope beyond death. —Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (POPE BENEDICT XVI), Faith and Future, Ignatius Press, 2009
That is a great hope, and one that echoes Our Lady of Fatima who promised that her Immaculate Heart would triumph, and that the world will be granted a “period of peace.” But we would be mistaken to think that this Triumph is merely a future event.
People expect things to happen immediately within their own time frame. But Fatima… The Triumph is an ongoing process. —Sr. Lucia in an interview with Cardinal Vidal, October 11th, 1993; God’s Final Effort, John Haffert, 101 Foundation, 1999, p. 2; quoted in Private Revelation: Discerning With the Church, Dr. Mark Miravalle, p.65
Even now, we are called to be carriers of this peace to all whom we know and encounter. The words of Jesus are for all times and all generations:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
Even now, we should devote all our energies to sowing and harvesting love wherever we can. Do not let division in your personal circumstances, as far as you are concerned, be the last word! While some of the above statements from both the popes and Our Lady are dramatic, this message given shortly after Easter to an anonymous seer in Jaén, Spain is perhaps the most crucial of all:
See that death no longer has dominion over Me, and likewise, will not have it over you if you die in Me—and with the soul clean from mortal sins and grudges. Do not hold a grudge against anyone as this is an immense poison for your soul and can make you lose blissful eternity. Anyone who has something against their brother or sister, against their neighbor, no matter how much they have done to them, may they forgive them from the heart and not hold any grudges against them. And were it the case that they should meet them, [then] speak to them, because I forgave My enemies and those who were cruel to Me from the Cross… and My Mother imitated me in everything. I, Jesus, am speaking to you.
Children, do not play with your eternal salvation over some quarrels that have already passed that are consequences of your human weakness, because many die with this poison in the soul and cannot enter Heaven. And if they stay in Purgatory, its duration is immense, because you have to forgive and to do it from the heart. Remember My new Commandment that you love one another as I have loved you (Jn 13:34), not in your way of loving, but Mine. Children, this is very important, and although I have said it many times, I will always have to remind you because there are many, many souls who do not forgive and who suffocate in their own pride, which is the worst attachment that they can have. I, Jesus, am speaking to you.
Everyone who forgives the evil done to them has Me ready to forget their sins and to forgive them, because the one who knows how to forgive and forget is a soul that has understood My doctrine and that imitates Me and pleases me very much. Therefore, children, put this into your heads as I suggest: forgive, forgive, forgive, and if it costs you, go to My Holy Mother so that She may help you, or come to Me so that I may help you to undertake that forgiveness, as not granting it harms you more than anyone else. —from Jesus, April 19th, 2017
