THE silence of Canadians, coupled with false expectations of their government leaders, is leading to a totalitarian state. Here’s why that’s not an exaggeration…
BOWING TO POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will be spending $1.4 billion annually, starting in 2023, on programs supporting the “health” of women and girls around the world. Under the plan, $700 million of that amount will be dedicated to “sexual and reproductive health rights.” Of course, that is United Nations’ speak for the right to “contraception and abortion.” At the same time, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer announced cuts to foreign aid. However, regarding that $700 million to fund abortion overseas?
“Those types of groups will not be affected by this announcement,” Scheer said, referring to organizations funded by Canadian dollars offering abortion care around the world. —Global News, October 1st, 2019
So not only will Scheer actively fight to shut down any debate of abortion in Parliament (see Part I), he will continue funding the killing of unborn children overseas. And what is the response in this country? Silence. Silence from the Church. Silence from politicians. Silence from voters, save for a few. Indeed, Trudeau has been paying for abortion overseas for a few years now with virtually no resistance.
Now, I get it. Any politician who dare not bow to the God of Status Quo or the Goddess of Political Correctness will be shredded in the public square. Unlike the United States where politicians openly take positions and debate moral issues, in Canada, it is a political mortal sin. The state-funded CBC will turn them into mincemeat. Social media and leftwing publications will fly into a rage. Politicians will be harassed and conservatives accused of holding a “hidden agenda.” We’ve seen this play out for decades now like reruns of a bad sitcom. So, say some of my readers, the Conservatives need to play it smart. Once they are in power, then abortion can be debated and progress made on this tragic issue.
Wrong. You see, before Justin Trudeau was elected, the Conservative Party was in power, and with a majority at that. Loaded with pro-life MP’s from across the country, they had a chance to at least bring this holocaust into a debate. And what did then Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper say?
As long as I’m Prime Minister, we are not reopening the abortion debate. The government will not bring forward any such legislation, and any such legislation that is brought forward will be defeated. This is not the priority of the Canadian people, or of this government. The priority is the economy. That’s what we’re going to focus on. —National Post, April 1st, 2011
Money, not babies. Dollar bills, not blood. Scheer’s position is basically a carbon-copy of Harper’s. So, it’s not I who am naive about politics here (as some reader’s suggested) but those who are expecting a “conservative” government to defend, not only the unborn, but freedom of speech and religion; to defend those who reject gender ideology, the redefinition of marriage, and the overturning of the natural law that, up until this generation, was held in consensus for thousands of years by nearly every culture.
Only if there is such a consensus on the essentials can constitutions and law function. This fundamental consensus derived from the Christian heritage is at risk… In reality, this makes reason blind to what is essential. To resist this eclipse of reason and to preserve its capacity for seeing the essential, for seeing God and man, for seeing what is good and what is true, is the common interest that must unite all people of good will. The very future of the world is at stake. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Address to the Roman Curia, December 20th, 2010
WHERE IT’S ALL GOING, AND FAST
Benedict’s warning has gone unheeded as the West continues the descent into totalitarianism.
This is what is happening also at the level of politics and government: the original and inalienable right to life is questioned or denied on the basis of a parliamentary vote or the will of one part of the people-even if it is the majority. This is the sinister result of a relativism which reigns unopposed: the “right” ceases to be such, because it is no longer firmly founded on the inviolable dignity of the person, but is made subject to the will of the stronger part. In this way democracy, contradicting its own principles, effectively moves towards a form of totalitarianism. —POPE JOHN PAUL II, Evangelium Vitae, “The Gospel of Life”, n. 20
In fact, the State’s imposition of its own moral constructs, the virtue-signalling of its devotees, and the subsequent “re-education” of the young suggests, not the rejection of traditional religion, but a replacement of it:
…an abstract, negative religion is being made into a tyrannical standard that everyone must follow. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Light of the World, A Conversation with Peter Seewald, p. 52
Case in point (in a move that stunned many for its sheer audacity), Trudeau’s government made it mandatory that anyone receiving summer job government grants must sign an “attestation” that they do not oppose abortion or transgenderism:
As a result, many programs, notably even secular festivals and summer events, did not proceed because organizers refused to deny their conscience and sign Justin’s new “creed” (no, not everyone is a coward here). And yet, Trudeau remains strong in the polls—proof that the Goddess of Political Correctness is more seductive than people realize. In case anyone thinks this is as bad as it’s going to get, they’re sadly mistaken.
In the UK, a seasoned doctor was fired from his job because he believes that “gender is determined biologically and genetically… If somebody has male XY chromosomes and male genitalia, I cannot in good conscience call them a woman.”[1]nypost.com, July 17th, 2018 Of course, his position is one that has been held in science, biology, psychology, and medicine since the dawn of creation—up until this generation. What’s most disturbing, though—and a harbinger of what is to come elsewhere—the judges on the United Kingdom employment tribunal determined this week that…
…belief in Genesis 1:27 [“God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”], lack of belief in transgenderism and conscientious objection to transgenderism in our judgment are incompatible with human dignity and conflict with the fundamental rights of others, specifically here, transgender individuals. —see ruling here
In essence, a court has ruled that the Catholic Church’s vision of human sexuality is “incompatible with human dignity.” Let us say no longer that totalitarianism is coming. It’s already here. The ideological randomness (what John Paul II calls “relativism”) of both politicians and the judiciary branch is a threat to the very foundations of freedom in the West.
At the same time that court ruling is sending chills throughout Christendom, another news story appeared today that reveals the irony, if not insanity in all this.
A woman named Charlie Evans identified as a male for ten years before deciding to “detransition” back to a woman. She was persecuted by the LGTB community for this (as if being a woman is a bad thing, I guess). Indeed, it’s politically correct to not only choose a gender, but even make one up—as long as you don’t choose “straight.” Since going public, she has been contacted by “hundreds” of people who, after undergoing gender reassignment surgery, now regret it.[2]cf. Sky News, October 5th, 2019 Here is the irony: it is fast becoming illegal for her or the multitudes who feel as she does to seek help and counselling. Indeed, the Liberal government in Canada has promised that, if they are re-elected, they will amend “the Criminal Code to ban the practice of conversion therapy that targets LGBTQ people.”[3]CTV News, September 29th, 2019 Trudeau is effectively ready to make it a crime to counsel someone who wants help to be themselves. Why isn’t this threat to freedom stringently opposed, especially by the Church?
In other words, if Canadians continue to allow this radical social experimentation to go unopposed, they better start getting used to the idea of their parishes losing charitable status if not closing, and their neighbour’s being fined or imprisoned for failing the “liberal values” test. I can just imagine the conversations that will take place behind bars, perhaps not so distant into the future…
“So, what are you in prison for?”
“Murder. You?”
“Used the wrong pronoun.”
“Really? And you’re not in solitary confinement? Geez man, you could trigger the whole prison.”
“I know, I know.”
“Watch your mouth around here, dude, if you wanna live.”
“Got it. Thanks man…. Uh… it is “man,” right?
“Like I said, watch your mouth.”
so many of whom are lost.
Do not be deceived; there are only two roads:
one that leads to life and is narrow;
the other that leads to death and is wide.
There is no middle way.
